The record draws Afrobeat, funk, French pop and transcendentalist poetry.
"My parents both, when we were young, they both played a record of Ella Jenkins'," Tanga says. "She's an American singer — she was doing all those Negro songs.
I was raised in it because my parents used to play this record every day, every morning before we would go to school."
Emma Louise - Jungle
I've been thinking, thinking about you, about us.
I've been dreaming, dreaming about you, about us.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
My head is a jungle, jungle,
My head is a jungle, jungle,
My head is a jungle, jungle,
My head, oh!
I was speaking soft, see the pain in your eyes,
I've been feeling, feeling for you, my love.
And our bodies are tired, our shadows will dance,
I've been aching, aching for you, my love.
My love is wasted, sorry for this I never meant to be, hurting ourselves, hurting ourselves
And I'm complicated, you won't get me, I have trouble, understanding myself,
And my love is wasted, sorry for this I never meant to be, hurting ourselves.
"It is hard to explain. There is this woman I fell in love with and she was traveling a lot. She went to her sister in Poland for a while and then she seemed to be all over Germany to find a theater where she wanted to be taught how to act. Now she is in Berlin and I am happy for her that she found a theater there where she can act. She was far away very often. But we always stayed in touch and we still meet as often as possible. And these are very precious moments. It's love and friendship and deep respect. Distance is a very difficult thing for lovers, but it also reminds you of the very special people that are spread all over the world. So this song goes out to all the hopes of all the lovers, no matter near or far. This is what the song means to me."
Cat Powers - Juke Box cover album
Laura Marling- You need a moment to yourself to listen and watch.
1-Great songs.
2-Smart lyrics.
3-AWESOME Venue. The old church with the old cross, candle albras, the benches, and old windows do it for me. It would sting my heart to be there front row watching the passion play on and come out.
4- Half way through the first song it starts to get REALLY good.
5.Plus two Mumford guys are playing instruments!
Ella Fitzgerald singing Cole Porters- Lets Fall In Love.
Birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
In Spain, the best upper sets do it
Lithuanians and Letts do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
The Dutch in old Amsterdam do it
Not to mention the Fins
Folks in Siam do it - think of Siamese twins
Some Argentines, without means, do it
People say in Boston even beans do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Romantic sponges, they say, do it
Oysters down in oyster bay do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Cold Cape Cod clams, 'gainst their wish, do it
Even lazy jellyfish, do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Electric eels I might add do it
Though it shocks em I know
Why ask if shad do it - Waiter bring me
"shad roe"
In shallow shoals English soles do it
Goldfish in the privacy of bowls do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Oh, geography Is gonna make a mess of me.
Oh, geography
Is gonna make a mess of me
Oh, geography
Is gonna make a mess of me
My my mouth, a confessional cannon
Run away from me with the most reckless of abandon
Are you unhappy for me?
I am unhappy for you
All I can think to do
Get you get you get you
Good good good good
But I don't know
What I don't know
Well I don't know
What I don't know
Oh, oh
My name is trouble, my first name’s a mess.

Great recommendation. Thank you Katie Center.
Keren Ann is both Dutch and Israeli and also spent some time growing up in France so her interesting multicultural background I believe heavily influences her musical style. I don't really get the video (maybe she is teaching VOGUE), but I like the song.
"I finally know I belong here in this world"

Horace Pippin taught himself to paint and produced about 140 deceptively simple works depicting the injustice of slavery, his time as a soldier in the trenches and scenes from nature and the Bible. I learned of him a few weeks ago at the De Young art museum.
