It’s already dark when you arrive, dazed from the layover, all swollen feet and fuzzy teeth, carrying what’s left of the place you’re leaving and one overnight bag. The air is different here — hotter and stickier and less careful — and everyone but you is wearing sandals, and no one knows your name.
Chicago - Killing Time.
Corn cobs buildings outside the hotel doors. Corncob-shaped 65-story towers (including five-story elevator and physical plant penthouse), at 587-foot (179 m) tall. It also includes a saddle-shaped auditorium building, and a mid-rise hotel building, all contained on a raised platform adjacent to the river in the Marina. I learned about them and their architect in school so I was excited to sleep outside their structure at night.

"No reason to leave here soon"
"The Bean" because of its bean- like shape. Made up of 168 stainless steel plates welded together, its highly polished exterior has no visible seams. It is 33 by 66 by 42 feet, and weighs 110 short tons.Said to have been inspired by liquid mercury, the sculpture's surface reflects and distorts the city's skyline. The sculpture was selected during a design competition.
On the underside is the "omphalos" (Greek for "navel"), a concave chamber that warps and multiplies reflections.
Training back to the airport I sat next to these two women. They were coming home from a play in Chicago. They seemed to get so much enjoyment being in each others company. They were talking and smiling for 20 minutes. It was fun to see them interacting, and playing off each others comments.

Here comes the rising tide. Here comes the weather. Here comes everybody.
" What is your aim to travel? What do you get from that?"
-Chat with Mayflower who is a Monk in Mandalay, Burma.
Mandalay is the second largest city (after Yangon), and a former capital of Myanmar. The city is the economic and religious hub of upper Myanmar. The city is centred around the Royal Palace, and has wide lanes filled with bicycles and motorcycles. Mandalay is known for its millionaires, its monks (half of the country's monks reside in Mandalay and surrounding areas), and its cultural diversity.
Chicago's Stormy Sunday.
Panoramic photo taken last Sunday. I love the lines in the building in contrast with the bridge.
It makes the photo look like two images that were put together. Nice work Clayton!
Please, Please, Please let me get what I want.
I stumbled upon a random house party in Brooklyn when I was walking down the sidewalk. I heard people and music (Jenn Lloyd moment). I proceeded inside, walked up a long staircase and through someones open front door (Emily Lloyd moment). That long staircase also brought me to a fire escape to the rooftop. The view from the rooftop was the Brooklyn Bridge with it's night lights aglow.
The girl in the photo was an Emily too. Thank you work trip, with a extended weekend.

Train from Paris to Shanghai Shanghai
I spent a handful of Friday evenings and returning Sundays afternoons on this platform waiting for a train to who knows where China, by myself and with randoms.

Replacing caravans with mansions in Romanian farm towns.
Six-year-old twins Gelu and Edi Petrache wait for the parties to start on Easter Sunday. They live in one of the more than a hundred extravagant houses that have gone up since communist rule ended in 1989. The Roma’s wealth in Buzescu, on the books and off, comes mostly from trade in silver and other metals.
Buzescu’s well-to-do have a thing for flamboyant decor. Vandana Ispilante sits with her 13-year-old daughter, Edera, in a bedroom that looks like a honeymoon suite—except for a picture of the Virgin Mary on the headboard. Odds are Edera’s closet will never hold head scarves and long flowered skirts, the traditional Romani dress.
In a backyard in the wealthy quarter, traditional village habits maintain a hold. On the day of a baptism, men send off a gift pig to the godparents. Some affluent Roma, especially older ones who grew up traveling in horse-drawn caravans, are uneasy in the mansions and still use outhouses and outdoor kitchens.
I can't forget this place - breakfast, lunch, and dinner...
